Visa guides

How much money do you need in your bank for a UK visitor visa?

There is no official minimum bank balance for a UK visitor visa. You should hold enough to cover your flights, accommodation and daily costs for the whole trip — many applicants budget roughly £100 or more per day of stay plus travel and accommodation — and be able to evidence it.

Why there is no single number

The amount that looks credible depends entirely on your plans: length of stay, whether accommodation is pre-paid or provided by family, and whether a sponsor is helping.

Treat any "rule of thumb" figure as a rough budgeting guide, not an official threshold.

A practical way to estimate

Add your return travel, accommodation, and a realistic daily allowance for food, transport and activities across your full stay.

If a UK-based host is covering accommodation or costs, your own required funds are lower, but the host’s support should be evidenced.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an exact figure the Home Office wants to see?

No. The assessment is about whether your funds are sufficient and credible for your specific trip.

How long should the money be in my account?

Funds that have been settled for several months are more persuasive than a large deposit made just before applying.
